About Mr Ian Smith

With over 10 years’ experience in his field, Mr Ian Smith is a highly regarded Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon.

His private practices are based at the Spire and Nuffield Hospitals in Leeds. He holds his consultant post at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, working at both the Leeds General Infirmary and St James’s Hospital. Mr Smith is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds.

Following his initial training in Maxillofacial Surgery in Birmingham, Mr Smith went on to undertake a 12 month fellowship in Adelaide, at the internationally renowned Australian Craniofacial Unit and a further 12 month Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology at The Royal Brisbane Hospital,

Queensland. Here he gained advanced training in head and neck surgery and also complex skin cancers. He went on to complete his higher surgical training in Plastic Surgery in Leeds in 1996 and has trained throughout the Yorkshire region.

For the major part of his NHS appointment, Mr Smith is the Lead Clinician for Sarcoma at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, and he is also Lead Clinician for Plastic Surgery. Carrying out all aspects of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, he specialises in oncological surgery and reconstruction, including complex sarcoma surgery. Within his private practice, Mr Smith offers a full range of cosmetic surgery including facial surgery, aesthetic surgery of the breast, body contouring surgery and non-surgical treatments. He is a member of the British Association of Plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and is on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (GMC No 4426154).

↓ Training Future Plastic Surgeons

He has a strong commitment to the training of future plastic surgeons and is the Training Programme Director for the Yorkshire and Humber region. He is also a member of the Court of Examiners for the FRCS(Plast) examination and has an impressive portfolio of publications and presentations in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
