Lipomas and Sarcoma

Lipomas are benign (harmless) fatty lumps that present as a swelling under the skin’s surface. They are very common and can present anywhere on the body. They can often become unsightly and uncomfortable in certain clothing.

People with smaller lipomas may choose to have these removed on cosmetic grounds.

Large (greater than 7cm) lipomas however, especially those increasing in size or that are painful, may need further investigation to rule out sarcoma.
